Summer is just around the corner, and it’s warming up even in the regions known for their frigid temps – like here in Minnesota! Because the winters are so long and cold, the locals tend to spend as much time outside as possible during the warmer months, and that includes dates! If you can relate, then keep reading for some of our favorite warm weather date ideas.
1. Get festive.
Whether it’s culture, music, food, history, or the quirky obscure type only celebrated in your town, there’s a festival for everyone – and they’re often outdoors! You can make a day of it, or even devote the whole weekend, depending on what type of festival it is. It’s the perfect way to enjoy nice weather and quality conversation, while getting lots of walking in, too.
2. Play fair (or carnival)!
There’s something nostalgic and old-school romantic about meandering around a fair or carnival, riding the ferris wheel together, and sharing a funnel cake or your favorite fair treats. Go big at the state fair or keep it low key at the local county fair or community carnival.
3. Take a hike.
If you are both hikers, do some research on some new-to-you trails that you’ve been wanting to check out or hit up an old favorite. This is a great option for squeezing in a date early in the day before it gets too hot.
4. Pack a picnic.
Picnics are great because you can tailor them to your preferences. Love being secluded in nature? You can find a scenic overlook away from all the hustle and bustle. Like people-watching? Stake out a spot at a busy park. Plus you can pack whatever type of food you want – whether it’s an actual meal, snacks/charcuterie, or even takeout from your favorite restaurant.
5. Life’s a beach.
You don’t have to live by the ocean to enjoy a beach day – most bodies of water will do! If it’s going to be a scorcher, you might as well take advantage of it and stay cool. If you have kids, going to the beach can be quite an undertaking, so be intentional about enjoying a more relaxing time if it’s just the two of you.
6. Watch a movie under the stars.
Drive-in theaters still exist, but even if you don’t live near one, many communities offer outdoor movie showings at parks or other outdoor locations during the summer. Sure, the movies are typically older titles, but let’s be honest – it’s about the novelty of the experience more than anything.
7. Love is a rollercoaster.
Do you live in the vicinity of an amusement park? If it’s within driving distance, consider planning a day date excursion. Maybe you’re both rollercoaster people, or one of you prefers to wave from the ground below. Or perhaps you both would rather focus more on the food and friendly competition at the midway. The great thing about an amusement park is you can do a mix of it all!
8. Fore!
If you’re both golfers, golf dates are probably nothing new to you. Try switching things up by inviting another golf couple on a double date. If regular golf isn’t your thing, disc golf is a more laidback, accessible option. You’ll find courses everywhere thanks to its surging popularity in recent years. It’s a fun, active date option for both newbies and veterans.
9. Trash or treasure?
Many cities have community-wide yard sales during the summer. Take a leisurely stroll around your neighborhood and see what treasures you and your spouse can find for next to nothing, or just enjoy each other’s company while you browse. You could even set out to find each other the best gift you can for under $5.
10. Take me out… to the ballgame.
If your city has a pro team, that’s great! But minor league or town teams can be just as fun – and are typically a lot cheaper anyway. Whether you’re invested in the outcome or don’t know a single player, a baseball game on a beautiful day or evening is a great opportunity to spend a few hours hanging out with your spouse. Snag some peanuts and cracker jacks and have a ball!
Well, what are you waiting for? Time to get outside and nurture the connection with your spouse. What are your favorite warm-weather date ideas? Let us know in the comments.
Stopping by an ice cream shop is one thing I plan to do with my wife. She said that she would like a banana split and I am curious to try one.
I plan to go Canoeing with my Beloved wife on a local River. She”s more of a deep sea fishing person so we plan to also go out on the Atlantic Ocean before the Summer is over. I will implement some of the suggestions and Ideas from the article above as well. Once again Thanks for Your support and commentment to Our Marriages.
